The relationship between an officer and his police dog goes far beyond a simple working relationship. By sharing many missions together, the two companions can build a strong bond that goes far beyond the work environment. This is exactly what happened with Officer Joseph Decristoforo and his faithful police dog Axel. The officer had a hard time saying goodbye to his deceased dog for the last time.
A dog devoted to his job
This officer had to say goodbye with deep sadness to his police dog and faithful life companion, Axel, forever. The dog with whom he shared missions and a part of his life passed away, as relayed by the Animal Channel media, in an article published on December 21, 2020. Their final farewell was difficult and heartbreaking.
Axel was a K9 officer who worked with the Central Falls Police Department. He was so dedicated to his job that he continued to serve beyond the age at which most K9 dogs retire. Axel did a phenomenal job of keeping the streets safe and making sure the officers were safe. Dedicated and selfless, he had no problem putting himself in danger to save the life of a colleague and especially his partner.
After his forced retirement about five years ago, his relationship with his partner, Officer Joseph Decristoforo, did not end there. Joseph had subsequently adopted him. Axel continued to live a beautiful life with his best friend, until he took his last breath.
Axel was not only Joseph’s work partner, but he was also his life partner. The two shared difficult times in the field, during missions. They also shared moments of sweetness and tenderness off duty. That is why, when the officer wanted to say goodbye to his police dog, he had a hard time realizing that it was the last time he would see him. Although Joseph had worked with law enforcement for some time, Axel was the first K9 he worked with.
