Many parents dream of a large family, but sometimes fate can also overdo it. This is what happened
Megan Hulen from North Dakota, USA, and her husband Joshua. They were already parents to Jacob, 8,
and Matthew, 3, when they decided to try for another child in the hope of having a girl. The mother had
never been able to get pregnant naturally, so she had resorted to fertility drugs and had assisted
reproduction in the past.
The couple was speechless after finding out they had conceived twins completely naturally: «We
I decided to try again for a girl and got pregnant before I even started taking drugs, she said

Megan. I started feeling really weird and thought, ‘There’s no way I could be pregnant because I’ve
never ovulated on my own.’ And then I found out I was pregnant and that was a surprise in itself. But then we
found out we were having five babies and nothing could have prepared us for that,” she gushed.

Megan had an ultrasound at six weeks, where she was initially told there was only one heartbeat and
it was unlikely all five babies were alive. “We came back a week later and saw five heartbeats. I was so
shocked: the sonographer was worried he’d hurt me with the probe because I was shaking and I said,
‘I’m shaking because you just told me I’m having five babies.’” After the ultrasound, I told my husband
that I couldn’t go home because I needed time to process the news away from the kids, so we went
to his office and I sat in the corner and cried for about an hour,” the mother continued. “I realized that
it was a blessing and I just had to accept it. and be grateful for it, so — in an effort to relax during
this pregnancy — I started getting a belly shot once a week and celebrating those little milestones. I could
be happy and be in the moment,” Megan says.Emotions aside, she discovered that there is a big difference between carrying one baby and carrying five:
“It’s definitely a lot more work, I would say… five times more!” she said with a smile. However, she was
shocked by the speed and ease of the delivery: “It wasn’t what I expected. I was so shocked because
the babies were all born within four minutes of each other. «

“Our first year has been very chaotic, but still full of love for each baby and, of course, our older children.
They have been amazing,” Joshua said. “There’s a lot of chaos, but we are super excited and happy to have a big
family. It’s bigger than we expected, but we are blessed and proud.”
